Why I pick the stones I do for my jewelry

I've started doing a weekly email about the various stones I use and why. Here's the first one I sent out last week!

I have a little confession to make. I am prejudiced against certain gemstones. Meaning I can’t stand to work with them! I know this is wrong, but there are some stones that give me the heebee jeebees. I just can’t be around them for very long without having to put them away. For example, when I look at Bloodstone, I feel a creep down my back. When I see Unakite, I have to look away.  And don’t even get me started on Moss Agate.

Do you find that you are more drawn to certain colors, textures or gemstones and have wondered why? Well, I am finding more and more that the energy certain stones give off can factor into whether you like them or not. And what’s more, this will change depending on what is going on in your life at the time. I would love to share with you the stones that mean the most to me and why I need to be around them especially now.

If you look at my booth or at my website, you might notice one thing; the absence of bright colors. I love muted tones in stones and am naturally drawn to them as they are more calming. (Not much turquoise on there right?) One of my favorites is Labradorite.

Labradorite is iridescent in color looking like a butterfly’s wings with flashes of blue and green. It is a form of feldspar with highly reflective properties and comes from many places in the world.

Why you might need it right now

Known as a gemstone of transformation, Labradorite can be of great assistance to those going through changes in life whether by choice or circumstances. A new career or the loss of employment, moving home, a broken relationship or embarking on a healthy new lifestyle all involve stresses and commitment and a Labradorite gemstone will give you the strength to persevere and succeed.

It is an emotionally positive gemstone, bringing enthusiasm to everyday life along with the simple joys of family, friends and surroundings. It will relieve the burdens of responsibility and allow you to appreciate what you have.

Here are a few lovely examples of Labradorite jewelry from my website,

(Just for fun) check them out and see if Labradorite appeals to you!
